abbr. HCGF (a term with multiple meanings). This factor of 68 kDa is secreted by multinucleated Reed-Sternberg giant cells of Hodgkin lymphomas (Newcom et al, 1992).
HCGF may be an autocrine growth modulator for this cell type. HCGF is recognized by a monoclonal antibody directed against IL4. Polyclonal antibodies against IL4 completely neutralize this factor. HCGF competes with recombinant IL4 (see also: Recombinant cytokines) for binding to the high-affinity IL4 receptor.
