[increasing capillary permeability protein] ICPP is a homodimeric protein from snake venom (110 amino acids/subunit) that shows strong homology to human VEGF (52 % sequence identity). The protein lacks the heparin binding domain found in most variants of VEGF and also the Asn glycosylation site.
ICPP shows strong capillary permeability activity. and is a potent angiogenic factor when added to mouse embryonic stem cells or human umbilical vein endothelial cells and most likely acts through the VEGF receptors VEGFR2 and VEGFR1 (Gasmi et al, 2002).
