IL1-HY1
The human IL1-HY1 protein shares significant amino acid sequence similarity (52 %) with the IL1 receptor antagonist, IL1ra, and probably also has a similar three-dimensional structure. Mulero et al (2000) havereported the complete nucleotide sequence of the human IL1-HY1 gene and pointed out that IL1-HY1 and IL1ra genes arose from a duplication of a primordial IL1 receptor antagonist gene.
IL1-HY1 mRNA is expressed in the skin, but is detected also in the spleen, brain leukocytes, and macrophages. In THP-1 cells the expression of the gene is induced by treatment with phorbol ester (PMA) or bacterial lipopolysaccharides.
