[interleukin-1-epsilon] Known also as FIL1-epsilon or IL1F6. The designation IL36-alpha [interleukin-36-alpha] has been proposed for this term (Dinarello et al, 2010).
IL1-epsilon is related to IL1. Abundant expression is observed in embryonic tissues and tissues containing epithelial cells (i.e., skin, lung, and stomach). The factor is produced by keratinocytes but not by fibroblasts, endothelial cells, or melanocytes. In keratinocytes the levels of IL1-epsilon are approximately 10-fold lower than those of the related factor IL1-epsilon. Expression in keratinocytes is upregulated by a combination of IL1-beta and
