[interferon regulatory factor-3] The sequence of the transcription factor IRF3 was obtained by searching an EST database for sequences similar to IRF1 and IRF2 (Au et al, 1995).
IRF3 is a protein of 50 kDa that binds specifically to ISRE [interferon-stimulated response element]. The protein contains a domain called SMIR (SMAD-IRF-binding domain) found also in IRF6 and IRF7.
