[Infectious spleen and kidney necrosis virus 48R protein] This protein is a virokine encoded by open reading frame orf48R in the genome of the fish virus ISKNV (Infectious spleen and kidney necrosis virus).
Infection by ISKNV causes epidermal lesions with prominent petechial hemorrhages and abdominal edema. ISKNV orf48R contains a domain similar to that of the PDGF and VEGF families of proteins and shows higher similarity to the VEGF protein homologs encoded by Megalocytivirus and Parapoxvirus than to those encoded in fish and mammals (see also: viral VEGF).
