Immunosuppressive factor

abbr. ISF (a term with multiple meanings).

This factor of 25 kDa is secreted constitutively into the conditioned medium of the A673 human rhabdomyosarcoma cell line. ISF inhibits T-cell proliferation. It also stimulates the anchorage-independent growth of normal rat kidney fibroblasts in soft agar cultures.

Partial sequencing of the factor purified from conditioned medium indicates that ISF is similar or identical with TGF-beta. Antibodies directed against TGF-beta-1 completely block ISF activity.
