abbr. IVCCA. This assay has been developed and described by Finkelman and Morris (1999) as the Cincinnati cytokine capture assay (abbr. CCCA). It has been developed to measure in vivo concentrations of cytokines, which poses a problem with conventional bioassays and other cytokine assays because some cytokines are produced in very small amounts, or are excreted, catabolized, or utilized rapidly so that serum concentrations are below the limits of detection (see also: Cytokine Concentrations in Biological Fluids).
