Indolicidin is tryptophan-rich antimicrobial peptide of 13 amino acids (ILPWKWPWWPWRRamide) purified from the cytoplasmic granules of bovine neutrophils. Del Sal et al (1992) have cloned the cDNA and reported that fhe peptide is synthesized in bone marrow cells as a precursor of 144 amino acids.
Indolicidin possesses potent antifungal activity against different species of pathogenic fungi, Candida albicans and Cryptococcus neoformans (Benincasa et al, 2006).
