[intragenic antimicrobial peptide]
This term has been coined by Brand et al (2012) to refer to identifiable peptide sequences with putative antimicrobial activity that are contained within parent proteins. They have described a bioinformatics procedure that is capable of identifying such parent proteins that were not identified previously by other approaches. See also: cryptides.
For other proteins/peptides with functions in innate immunity and/or antimicrobial activities see also: Innate immunity and defense peptides Dictionary. For other proteins (or fragments thereof) with at least one additional activity that differs from the established 'classical' activity of the parent protein see also: Dual identity proteins and Cryptides MiniCOPE Dictionary.
