abbr. K cells (a term with multiple meanings). (Körnchen is the diminuitive from German 'Korn' = granule, grain). These cells are characterized as mononuclear cells with a morphology of granulated lymphocytes (Hellweg, 1954). They express surface antigens that are different from those of B-cells or T-cells. K cells lyse antibody-coated cells in the absence of complement by attaching to the Fc portion of the antibody molecule. These cells are NK-cells or a subpopulation thereof and are also being referred to as uterine NK-cells (abbr. uNK-cells; see: endometrial granulocytes),
