[kringles 1-5; protease-activated kringles 1-5] abbr. also PlgK1-5 [plasminogen kringles 1-5]. This protein, which contains kringle domains 1-5, i.e., all kringle domains (amino acids 1-546), of plasminogen is obtained by digestion of plasminogen with urokinase-activated plasmin. K1-5 is an angiogenesis inhibitor. It inhibits endothelial cell proliferation at picomolar concentrations. This inhibitory effect is specific for endothelial cells and is at least approximately 50-fold greater than that of angiostatin, which is derived also from plasminogen. Systemic treatment of mice
