abbr. KAS, Kass. This amidated neuropeptide (DVPKSDQFVGLMamide; Asp-Val-Pro-Lys-Ser-Asp-Gln-Phe-Val-Gly-Leu-Met) from the skin of the African frog Kassina senegalensis (Anastasi et al, 1977) belongs to family of tachykinins, with which it shares the characteristic C-terminal tripeptide GLMamide. It differs from other tachykinins in its N-terminal sequence.
Wang et al (2009) have cloned the genes encoding Kassinin and the related substituted analog Thr(2)Ile(9)-kassinin. Each peptide is active on rat urinary bladder smooth muscle cells at nanomolar concentrations
