This complex has been purified from human leukocytes. L1 complex is an antimicrobial protein that is present in the cytoplasm of neutrophils (Dale et al, 1983). It is a major and highly immunogenic protein component of human granulocytes. The protein has been found to be involved in the recruitment of inflammatory cells by interactions with endothelial cells (Srikrishna et al, 2001).
L1 complex consists of two subunits, termed L1L and L1H, which are identical with the two calgranulins Calgranulin A and Calgranulin B (see: Calgranulins) (Andersson et al, 1988).
