Latran

This Drosophila melanogaster protein is the product of the CG14225 gene. It is a short non-signaling type 1 cytokine related receptor (Makki et al, 2010) Latran forms heteromers with Domeless and antagonizes Domeless activity in response to its ligands (unpaired, unpaired 2, unpaired 3). An increase in the Latran / Domeless ratio is observed after immune responses to wasp parasitism, and this leads to complete inhibition of JAK-STAT signaling. Latran is required for switching off JAK-STAT signaling in the precursors of hemocytes, which, in turn, is a prerequisite to massive differentiation of lamellocytes.
