abbr. LEC (a term with multiple meanings). The human cDNA encoding this factor is expressed highly and selectively in the liver (Fukuda et al, 1999; Shoudai et al, 1998). Nomiyama et al (2001) have reported constitutive expression by liver hepatocytes). The factor belongs to the group of CC-Chemokines.
The human gene has a length of approximately 5 kb and possesses three exons. Two types of transcripts, (579 bp, 1503 bp) are generated through alternative polyadenylation sites. The gene for HCC1, which is most similar to LEC, is located approximately 2.2 kb upstream from the 5' end of the LEC gene in a head-to-tail fashion.
