Lymphocyte Homing Receptor

abbr. LHR (a term with multiple meanings). This receptor, expressed on the lymphocyte cell surface, regulates lymphocyte recirculation and localisation, an essential component of a functional immune system (Jalkanen et al, 1986; Stamper et al, 1976; Pals et al, 1986). It involves the migration of lymphocytes from the blood to surrounding tissues through the wall of high endothelial venules, specialized venules with a cuboid endothelial morphology present in the T-cell areas of lymph nodes and mucosa-associated lymphoid tissues (Jalkanen et al, 1987) and found also in a variety of chronic inflammatory conditions (Duijvestijn et al, 1988).
