This biochemically uncharacterized factor is isolated from membrane fractions obtained from highly purified LAK cells (lymphokine-activated killer cells). The factor is cytolytic for a number of target cells and induces their death by apoptosis. The factor is not identical with Perforins, which also possess cytolytic activity. The activity of M-CTX cannot be inhibited by antibodies directed against TNF-alpha, TNF-beta and IFN-gamma.
