MDGI

[mammary-derived growth inhibitor; mammary-derived growth inhibition factor] This protein of 14.5 kDa (133 amino acids) has been isolated from bovine mammary glands (Böhmer et al, 1988). The regulatory properties of MDGI can be mimicked fully by an 11 amino acid sequence derived from the carboxy terminus of MDGI and a subfamily of structurally related fatty acid binding proteins.

The protein belongs to a family of structurally related proteins. It is related closely also to CRBP (cellular retinoid binding protein), adipocyte differentiation associated protein P422, and myelin P2.
