[methyltransferase like 13] Takahashi et al (2011) have named the protein encoded by METTL13 FEAT protein (an acronym for faint expression in normal tissues, aberrant overexpression in tumours). They have shown that it is the rat homolog of CGI-01 protein (CGI for "comparative gene identification", referring to a set of genes identified in Caenorhabditis elegans (Lai et al, 2000). The gene has been identified independently as KIAA0859.
