a human gastric carcinoma cell line. The cells secrete large amounts of IL6 into the conditioned medium and express high and low affinity receptors for IL6. The growth of these cells is blocked by a monoclonal antibody directed against IL6, suggesting the existence of an autocrine growth control loop (Ito et al, 1993). This loop may also involve IL1.
