This is a lymphoblastoid CD4(-) T-helper cell line established from a spontaneous lymphosarcoma of the gibbon. This line releases gibbon ape leukemia virus and should be handled as potentially biohazardous material.
The cells express gamma delta T-cell receptor. Conditioned medium of MLA 144 cells support growth and DNA synthesis of T-cells from humans, several other species of primates, and also from mice and rabbits. This cell line is used because it constitutively produces IL2 and IL3. The
