MLF1

[myeloid leukemia factor-1; myelodysplasia-myeloid leukemia factor-1]

This gene has been identified by Yoneda-Kato et al (1996) in the form of an in-frame fusion with nucleophosmin as a result of a t(3;5)(q25.1;q34) chromosomal translocation associated with myelodysplastic syndrome and acute myeloid leukemia (AML). The MLF1 gene encodes a predicted 268 amino acid polypeptide that shares 64 % sequence similarity with MLF2. MLF1 is expressed in a number of tissues, including skeletal muscle, heart, brain and hematopoietic stem cells. MLF1 occurs in the cytoplasm whereas the fusion protein is targeted to the nucleus, especially the nucleolus.

MLF1 is potentially involved in regulation of mitosis (cell cycle exit) and cell differentiation ... ... ... ... ... Subscribe to continue reading! ... ...
