[Macromolecular translocation inhibitor II] This protein has been identified as an in vitro inhibitor of binding between the highly purified glucocorticoid receptor and isolated nuclei. The protein has been shown to be identical with Parathymosin-alpha and ZnBP [zinc-binding protein] (Okamoto and Isohashi, 2000).
Knockdown of endogenous MTI-II expression reduces the transcriptional activity of glucocorticoid receptor in cells, and expression of MTI-II enhances the glucocorticoid-dependent transcription of the endogenous glucocorticoid-inducible enzyme in cells and is involved also in remodelling of chromatin structure by interfering with the binding of linker histone H1 to nucleosomes (Okamoto and Isohashi, 2005).
