[motilin-related peptide] This protein has been identified by Tomasetto et al (2000) in a search for proteins the expression of which is restricted to the gastric epithelium. The protein is expressed mainly by the secretory granules of the stomach enteroendocrine cells. The precursor protein is processed to a secreted peptide that is further cleaved at a dibasic site and gives rise to the MTLRP and MTLRP-associated peptide. The sequence shows that MTLRP is the same as ghrelin.
