abbr. CLEC-muc. This cell type, characterized by the expression of CD227 (mucin 1), has been identified by Reza et al (2011) in human umbilical cord lining. These cells are highly proliferative, have significant clonogenic ability, and express a variety of embryonic stem cell markers. OCT4, NANOG, SSEA-4, REX1 and SOX2. Despite the abundant expression of epithelial cell marker CD227 and cytokeratins, this population also expresses the mesenchymal stem cell marker CD166.
