[Myeloid-Derived Growth Factor] This protein has been identified as a potentially secreted protein encoded by human gene C19orf10 [chromosome 19 open reading frame 10] (Korf-Klingebiel M et al, 2015), who have reported that the factor is produced by bone marrow-derived monocytes and macrophages. The protein promotes cardiac myocyte survival and angiogenesis and protects and repairs the heart after myocardial infarction. Knock-out mice lacking expression of MYDGF develop larger infarct scars and more severe contractile dysfunction compared to wild-type mice, and treatment with recombinant MYDGF reduces scar size and contractile dysfunction after myocardial infarction.
