[Motor Exit Point glial cell]
abbr. MEP Glial cells. This specialised cell type represents a type of glial cell outside the spinal cord at the transition zone between the central nervous system and the peripheral nervous system. The cells function to segregate central and peripheral components from ectopically crossing this boundary (Vermeren et al, 2003; Kucenas et al, 2009; Coulpier et al, 2010; Smith et al, 2014). The cells myelinate spinal motor root axons in the periphery (for overview see also: Fontenas and Kucenas, 2018).
