Musclin

Musclin has been identified independently as osteocrin. The receptor is NPR3 [natriuretic peptide receptor 3].

Murine musclin cDNA has been identified by Nishizawa et al (2004). It encodes a secreted protein of 100 amino acids. Musclin mRNA is expressed almost exclusively in the skeletal muscle of mice and are markedly low in fasted and streptozotocin-treated insulin deficient mice but rise upon re-feeding. Expression of Musclin mRNA is induced at late stage in the differentiation of C2C12 myocytes. Insulin increases and epinephrine, isoproterenol, and forskolin reduce musclin mRNA in myocytes. High levels of musclin mRNA are observed in the muscles of obese ... ... ... ... ... Subscribe to continue reading! ... ...
