Myticins comprise peptides of 40 amino acids, Myticin A (HSHACTSYWCGKFCGTASCTHYLCRVLHPGKMCACVHCSR) and Myticin B (HPHVCTSYYCSKFCGTAGCTRYGCRNLHRGKLCFCLHCSR) with four intramolecular disulfide bridges isolated from haemocytes (isoform A and B) and plasma (isoform A) of the mussel, Mytilus galloprovincialis. The two molecules display antibacterial activity against Gram-positive bacteria. Only isoform B is active against the fungus Fusarium oxysporum and Escherichia coli D31 (Mitta et al, 1999). Venier et al (2003) have suggested that Myticin A may be involved in stress responses.
