abbr. NPF. This factor (16 kDa) has been isolated from the conditioned medium of rat splenocytes stimulated with concanavalin A (Kohama et al, 2003). The factor is required for growth and survival of rat N-9F cells derived from athymic nude mice, which cannot be maintained in the presence of IL2 alone. N-9F cells and immature thymocytes proliferate in the presence of NPF at 10-11to10-8 g/mL in a dose-dependent manner. Adult thymocytes are not stimulated by NPF.
