[neutrophil-immobilizing factor-2] This protein of 38 amino acids has been isolated from the 22,000 g supernatant of sonicates of human neutrophils (Watt et al, 1983). The sequence of 20 of the aminoterminal amino acids of NIF-2 is identical with that of NIF-1, but NIF-2 possesses an additional alanine at the aminoterminus. NIF-2 inhibits random migration of human neutrophils (see also: motogenic cytokines) and chemotaxis to diverse stimuli (C5a and fMLP) in a concentration-dependent manner. NIF-2 is not cytotoxic for neutrophils. It does not alter their phagocytosis behaviour or release of lysosomal enzyme. It also does not inhibit chemotaxis of mononuclear leukocytes.
