[natural suppressor cell-derived suppressor factor] This factor of 10-13 kDa is secreted by murine bone marrow natural suppressor cells activated by recombinant IL3 or recombinant GM-CSF (see also: Recombinant cytokines). These cells, which nonspecifically suppress immune responses, are generally found at sites of hematopoietic generation or regeneration (see also: hematopoiesis). NS cells, are non-adherent, radioresistant non-T-cells resident in the bone marrow, and have natural cytotoxic (NC), but not natural killer activity.
The factor is a potent inhibitor of myeloid colony formation at concentrations
