Normal cross-reacting antigen

this term refers to an antigen found originally in normal and malignant epithelial tissues, and in normal spleen and lung tissues, and shown to be present in polymorphonuclear neutrophilic granulocytes, as well as in cells which appeared to be of the monocyte / macrophage lineage (Bordes et al, 1978; Burtin et al, 1975).

In older references this term and the terms Nonspecific cross-reacting antigen or Nonspecific cross-reacting antigens are used synonymously and refer to a glycoprotein that shares some antigenic determinants with carcinoembryonic antigen (Mach and Pusztaszeri, 1972; von Kleist et al, 1972; Engvall et al, 1978; Burtin et al, 1978).
