[Nitric oxide-inducible gene protein] Noxin is a stress-induced gene identified originally by Nakaya et al (2007) as a nitric oxide-inducible gene. It is encoded by C11orf82 [chromosome 11 open reading frame 82]. The approved gene symbol is DDIAS [DNA damage-induced apoptosis suppressor].
Noxin expression is induced strongly by a wide range of stress signals: gamma-irradiation, UV irradiation, hydrogen peroxide, adriamycin, and cytokines. This induction is dependent on p53. Noxin accumulates in the nucleus and, when expressed ectopically, arrests the cell cycle at G1.
