OX2 (new designation CD200) is a type 1 membrane glycoprotein and a member of the immunoglobulin superfamily. The mouse homolog has been cloned by Boriello et al (1998) who called it MOX2.
The protein is expressed on a broad range of tissues including neurons of the central and peripheral nervous systems, thymocytes, and endothelial cells (Wright et al, 2001). OX2 binds to a receptor expressed on macrophages (Preston et al, 1997). Borriello et al (1997) have reported that OX2 can costimulate murine T-cell proliferation.
