This activity was isolated from tumors induced in nude mice by an established human tumor cell line derived from human amnion that has been reported to cause bone formation in vivo (Izbcka et al, 1996). The activity stimulates proliferation of MG-63 osteoblast-like cells and is an extend amino-terminal form of bFGF. bFGF is known also to stimulate proliferation in MG-63 cells and other osteoblasts in vitro and bone formation in vivo.
