P2 (14.1 kDa) is an antibacterial protein isolated from the old world bollworm Helicoverpa armigera. Its expression is inducible by bacteria and its activity resembles that of Gloverin, with which it shares approximately 60 % identity at the N-terminus. The protein also shows homology with a protein resembling Gloverin isolated from Trichoplusia ni (Lundstrom et al, 2002)
P2 has been shown to be active against some Gram-negative bacteria but is inactive against the Gram-positive bacteria, Candida albicans, a bovine turbinate cell line, and pestivirus.
