[pancreatitis-associated protein-3] This protein is related to PAP-1 (Frigerio et al, 1993). PAP-3 is a member of a multigene family of proteins expressed in several tissues, which includes PAP-1, PAP-2, and lithostathine. The protein is the same as REG3G (REG3-gamma [regenerating islet-derived-3-gamma]).
The PAP-3 gene is overexpressed by the pancreas during acute pancreatitis and is expressed also constitutively in intestinal tissues (Dusetti et al, 1995; Frigerio et al, 1993). Graf et al (2001) have reported that PAP-3, like lithostathine and PAP-1, forms spontaneously precipitating peptide
