[pheochromocytoma cell-4] An early response gene the transcription of which is stimulated rapidly and transiently by treatment of cells with mitogens or agents that induce differentiation (Jahner and Hunter, 1991; Kreider and Rovera, 1992). PC-4 expression is induced by treatment of cells with Phorbol esters such as 12-O-tetradecanoyl-phorbol-13-acetate. PC-4 is expressed at high levels along the whole neural tube of early rat embryos (Iacopetti et al, 1996).
