A glycoprotein of 50-70 kDa found in the conditioned medium of a cell line of squamous cell carcinoma of the head and neck (PCI-50) (Hirabayashi et al, 1995). It induces activation, promotes proliferation and increases antitumor cytotoxicity of freshly purified human natural killer cells and CD4(+) T-lymphocytes. The factor induces expression of CD25, HLA-DR, CD54 (ICAM-1), CD71 (transferrin receptor), and CD69 (activation-inducing molecule) in these cells.
