[PCPV(VR634)VEGF] This homolog of VEGF is a virokine encoded in the Pseudocowpox virus (PCPV) genome [Pseudocowpox virus VEGF]. The protein is related to VEGF proteins encoded by orf virus (see: VEGF-E) and shows 27 % identity with human VEGF. The viral proteins binds to VEGF receptor-2 (KDR) but not to other VEGF receptors (Ueda et al, 2003). PCPV VEGF is mitogenic for endothelial cells and induces vascular permeability, suggesting that it contributes to the proliferative and vascularized nature of lesions caused by PCPV infection.
