[protein interacting with carboxyl terminus 1] The gene has been cloned by Okahara et al (2004) who reported that PICT-1 interacts with the C-terminus of PTEN [phosphatase and tensin homolog], a gene that is mutated in multiple advanced cancers, and regulates its phosphorylation and turnover. Down-regulation of PICT-1 in MCF7 cells enhances the degradation of PTEN with a concomitant decrease in its phosphorylation. Yim JH et al (2007) have reported that PICT-1 phosphorylates PTEN and induces apoptotic cell death when overexpressed, which is independent of caspases and the ability of PICT-1 to phosphorylate PTEN.
The approved gene symbol for this gene is GLTSCR2 [glioma tumor suppressor candidate region gene 2
