[Prolactin-like protein G, Placental prolactin-like protein G, PRL-like protein G] approved gene symbol PRLPG.
This protein is a member of an expanded prolactin family of genes, which encode secreted structurally related hormones that are expressed most prominently in the anterior pituitary, uterus and placenta. These cytokines (see also: PRL-like proteins) are expressed in a gestationally specific pattern and are thought to be involved in the control of maternal-fetal adaptations during different phases of pregnancy (Wiemers et al, 2003).
PLP-G cDNA encodes for a predicted 266 amino acid protein that shares 50 % amino acid sequence identity with PLP-F
