[porcine myeloid antimicrobial peptide-23] PMAP-23 is an antimicrobial peptide of 23 amino acids (RIIDLLWRVRRPQKPKFVTVWVR) from porcine myeloid cells (Zanetti et al, 1994). The peptide belongs to the family of cathelicidins and shows a broad spectrum antimicrobial activity against both Gram-negative bacteria and Gram-positive organisms. Brogden et al (2007) have shown that the peptide is active against Pasteurella multocida. PMAP-23 displays strong activity against Candida albicans (Lee et al, 2001) and is active also against nematodes (Park et al, 2004).
