[paraoxonase-2] The enzyme is being referred to also as Serum paraoxonase/arylesterase 2, Aromatic esterase 2 (A-esterase 2) and Serum aryldialkylphosphatase 2.
PON2 is a member of three related calcium-dependent enzymes that hydrolyze lactones and a number of aromatic carboxylic acid esters. All three lactonases have overlapping and distinct substrate specificities (Draganov et al (2005; overview: Camps et al, 2009). The gene has been cloned by Mochizuki et al (1998).
