[proline-rich Akt substrate 40 kDa] approved gene symbol: AKT1S1 [Proline-rich AKT1 substrate 1] This protein of 40 kDa has been identified by Kovacina et al (2003) as a substrate of AKT1 (protein kinase B), which is one of the major downstream targets of the phosphatidylinositol 3-kinase pathway. Phosphorylation of this protein allows it to bind to 14-3-3. Saito et al (2004) have suggested that interaction of PRAS40 with AKT1 and 14-3-3 may play an important role in neuroprotection mediated by NGF in cell death by apoptosis of neurons after transient focal cerebral ischemia as artificial or NGF induced overexpression of the phosphorylated protein inhibits
