PRCD

[Progressive rod-cone degeneration protein] PRCD is a late onset autosomal recessive photoreceptor degeneration in dogs. The gene encodes a peptide of 54 amino acids. The human gene has been cloned by Zangerl et al (2006) cloned human PRCD. The first 28 amino acids of PRCD are completely conserved between human and dog. Homozygosity for mutations that are identical to the one found in dogs have been found in human patients with autosomal recessive retinitis pigmentosa (Zangerl et al, 2006; Nevet et al, 2010; Remez et al, 2014).
