[proline-rich motif] This proline-rich consensus sequence motif of 8 amino acids is found in the intracellular domain of all cytokine and hormone receptors of the cytokine receptor superfamily. Two types of consensus sequences have been identified. The first motif (PRM1) has the sequence Al-Ar-Pro-X-Al-Pro-X-Pro. The second motif (PRM2) is Ar-X-X-X-Al-Pro-X-Pro (Al = aliphatic; Ar = aromatic). Several alternative cytokine receptor isoforms have been shown to contain two copies of PRM within the same intracellular domain (O'Neal and Yu-Lee, 1993).
