[proline-rich peptide-1] PRP-1 (AGAPEPAEPAQPGVY) is a proline-rich polypeptide identified by Galoyan et al, 2006). It is produced by the neurosecretory cells of hypothalamus. PRP-1 possesses antibacterial activity and protects guinea pigs against anthrax bacillus or anthrax strain N55. Abrahamyan et al (2004) have stated that the peptide is encoded by the AVP-NpII [arginine-vasopressin-neurophysin II, vasopressin-neurophysin 2-copeptin] gene, which they refer to as neurophysin-vasopressin-associated glycoprotein. In some publications the peptide is being referred to as galarmin.
